About Number Plate Guide

Number Plate Guide is a free, independent site about UK number plates: what year a plate is from, what it can go on, and the rules around displaying and transferring plates. It’s run by HTML Studio, a small UK web studio.

What we do

• Explain plate formats and age identifiers, with dates taken from DVLA’s published guidance.
• Run a free year checker that works in your browser. We never see or store the reg you type.
• Link to official GOV.UK services for anything that needs DVLA’s records.

What we don’t do

• We are not DVLA and we’re not connected to the UK Government.
• We don’t sell number plates.
• We don’t value plates. For that, our sister site Value My Numberplate can help.
